Me? Agreeing with PETA?

July 22nd, 2007

Now, I pick on PETA. A lot. But this time, and probably the last instance for a long time, I'm siding with the hippies (in other news, a black hole has appeared in the Houston Area and we're expected to experience lows of -2 Kelvin tonight.) I'm not kidding, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and Fenris have achieved the same wavelength of pissed-off, and here's why...

Micheal Vick, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, has been busted for running a dog fighting ring on his property, as well as gambling over dog fights interstate for the past five years.

Way to go, Mike, because the $1.4 million you got from the NFL last year and the $7 million in bonuses simply wasn't enough to cover your bases.

But I'm a fair doggy, so let's listen to Mike's response to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "I'm never at the house...I left the house with my family...They just haven't been doing the right thing... It's unfortunate I have to take the heat behind it. If I'm not there, I don't know whats going on."

Right. Either Vick hadn't seen his house in five years, or whenever he dropped by, he somehow missed 15 acres of black shacks with blood-stained walls and/or 55 emaciated pit bulls popping up around the property. Get bitten.

Dog fighting is one of those things that pisses me off. Yes, animals fight all the time, but dogs aren't intended to rip each other to pieces simply because the owner has a debt to settle (a-DURR.) Nevermind the whole subject of giving the dogs daily beatings, underfeeding, and tying the females to "rape stands" for mating that would make Anthony Hopkins cringe. Some things, such as meat, pets, Texas Grillers and such are necessary; this shit isn't. I see enough of this at the SPCA.

So, yea, me and PETA. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Get pissed while it's hot.

EDIT 10-23-07: Okay, PETA, you had an okay streak going, but you had to screw it up. I took the liberty of writing the NFL commissioner to deny them the publicity, on grounds of discrimination and ill benefit. Back to square one.
